“Safe Cargo Handling AI Fork Buddy” is an AI jointly developed by Fujitsu Cloud Technologies and Suntory Logistics. After the press release of the joint project, we received many requests for a service, and it was born after interviewing many companies in the logistics industry.

As a result of our interviews, we learned that many companies in the logistics industry cannot afford to invest in the safety of forklift operations due to their busy schedules.

There are four main issues surrounding forklift operations:

While each company has its own safety standards for forklift operations, the enforcement standards for them were personal. Companies that don’t invest enough in safety have little opportunity to look back on their forklift operations after obtaining a license. It is not easy for each company to formulate its own safety standards, and there are many problems such as how to decide the evaluation items, what to do with the standards of each judge, and who will do the evaluation in the first place.

We asked Mr. Miyazaki, who is in charge of business development, why Fujitsu Cloud Technologies is developing Fork Buddies.

Since we are not specialized in a specific industry, we didn’t know much about the logistics industry. Therefore, we interviewed more than 20 customers about their industry issues and showed them their worksites. In the summer, I completed a forklift driving skill course.

Without fear of misunderstanding, driving a forklift is not difficult, and I felt that I could operate it to some extent after two days of riding, and that I could naturally master it after riding it for work for a month. But at the same time, I was terrified that small multi-ton vehicles would drive at high speeds with workers nearby, and sometimes without safety checks.
